Paver Patios & Walkways in Cherry Hill, NJ

Back patios, front and side walkways, and the steps and landings between them, built by twin brothers Jakub and Karol Miklus.

What we build

Patios for the back of the house and walkways to the front door, laid out around how you use the yard.

  • Back patios

A level patio off the back door, with room for a table, a grill or a few chairs.

  • Walkways

Front walks from the driveway to the door, and side paths to the gate or the shed.

  • Steps and landings

Paver steps and landings where the yard or the doorway changes level.

  • Seating walls and fire pits

Low block walls along the edge of the patio, and a fire pit if you want one.

What goes under the pavers

Most of a patio's work happens before the first paver goes down.

Patio being laid: part of the pavers down, the rest of the area screeded sand inside string lines
  1. Dig outGrass and soft soil come out down to firm ground, and the area is sloped so water runs away from the house.
  2. Stone baseCrushed stone goes in and is compacted in layers.
  3. Bedding and paversA screeded layer of sand, then the pavers in the pattern you picked.
  4. Edges and jointsEdge restraint holds the sides in place, and the joints are filled with polymeric sand.

Before you build in Cherry Hill

Cherry Hill Township has its own rules for patios. These come from the township's permit guidance for decks and patios.

  • Zoning permit first

The township requires a zoning permit before a patio is installed, expanded or replaced.

  • It counts as coverage

Patios count as impervious surface, along with the house, driveway and walkways, toward the lot's limit.

  • 500 square feet or more

A net increase of 500 square feet or more of impervious surface needs a grading plan.

  • Not in easements

Patios aren't allowed in drainage, sewer or other easements.
